Wake up, rush, get ready, rush, pack, rush, put luggage in bus, rush, eat, takemytime, leave for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On the road, we left our hotel in New Jersey and headed for Phili. It took about three hours to get there. In Philadelphia we went on a driving tour instead of a walking tour because it was raining. One of the places we actually got out to walk, was at Independence Hall. There we went on a tour through a couple of places where some of the most important documents in the history of America were signed.
After our afternoon in Philadelphia, we drove through Delaware into the state of Maryland and to the District of Columbia. We were now in Washington D.C. There we ate dinner at Grand Central Station, and did some hard-core shopping!!! We ate really good burgers and bought a lot of stuff that we could never find in Hawaii.
We then went to the World War II Memorial. There was a big fountain right in the center. Surrounding the fountain were pillars with all of the names of the states, and the places where we fought. There was also a wall with 400 gold stars. Each star represented 1,000 lives lost in the war, which totaled to 400,000 lives lost. Also from this historical site, you could see many of Washington D.C.'s monuments.
After we went to the World War II Memorial, we headed for our final tour of the day, Jefferson Monument. It was built for our nation's third president, Thomas Jefferson. He was a great architect and much more. His term lasted from 1801-1809. He is most famous for writing the Declaration of Independence which signified the independence of our country. We now celebrate this as a national holiday as we know as the Fourth of July.
Went back to the bus and went to a comfort inn in Virginia.
