The traffic going into Philadelphia and Washington D.C. often looked like this. Today we basically went through 7 states.
This is the oldest street in America and has been constantly occupied from the beginning. There are quaint little houses overlooking the street. The capitol in Philadelphia is the largest capitol in the United States. It doesn't look like much, but it is massive and includes the tower and the large clock. Philadelphia is the home of Sylvester Stallone, so when he shot his first Rocky film, Rocky ran up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He had a statue made of him, and it is back at the museum, even it it's not a piece of art.The view of the Philadelphia skyline from the steps of the museum of art.Marie was another excellent step-on guide that showed us her hometown of Philadelphia. The outside of independence hall. This was once the capitol of the United States. Here representatives from the 13 colonies decided on our current system of checks and balances to keep the United States free from tyranny. This room inside of Independence Hall is where they wrote the declaration of independence. It's also where they came up with the number of congressmen for the states (favoring the larger states) and the equal number of senators for each state (favoring the smaller states). Some of the more expensive homes, like this one (left) are on Society Hill. Got a few million to spare?
Two of our favorite past times. The kids love to shop. The boys have bought out the hat stores, and the adults love to hurry up and wait. If you're late for our meeting times, you will have to pay the Samura fine of $2.00 (proceeds go to a very good cause). The last stop, once we traveled from Philadelphia to Washington DC was the Jefferson Memorial and the World War II memorial. Thanks to our tour guides, we got to go back a few days later to take pictures during the day. The WWII memorial has a fountain in the middle and there are columns representing the 50 states as well as our territories and major battle sites like the Philippines. The pillars on the memorial are hung with 2 kinds of wreaths: oak leaves to symbolize the strength of America and wheat to symbolize the prosperity of America. The back wall has 400 stars in front of a pool of water that represents the 400,000 American lives lost in the war. Day 6: heading for the home stretch
